Organisation and Management

A key principle embedded in the constitution, and within the culture of the choir is that this is a choir that is run by the membership for the membership through processes and systems outlined in the constitution. If you have any questions about any governance issues, speak to any of our committee or other members.

The business of the choir is executed and coordinated by a management committee elected by the Annual General Meeting. This committee meets every month. It takes forward the issues raised and approved at the AGM, and provides reports on the progress being made on the choir’s concert planning, performances, development and finances. The Choir Constitution describes the arrangements for Annual General Meetings and choir governance.

The committee reports progress to members through the monthly management committee meeting minutes, through announcements at rehearsals, e-mail circulation and the notice board. Members are encouraged to raise issues with committee members at any time.

A music committee meets periodically with the Director of Music to discuss repertoire, concerts, soloists and actions which will enhance and improve the choir’s performance. Notes of these meetings appear within the minutes of the management committee meetings.

The Members’ subscriptions of £15 a month are the main source of income, enabling music to be purchased, uniforms provided, rehearsal venue and the Director of Music and Accompanist to be paid. The choir charges a modest but affordable fee for concerts, and provides up to three free concerts annually (with MD and Accompanist having first call)

Small voluntary organisations, charities and church groups find that concerts can be a valuable source of income for them. They enjoy the concert and evening’s entertainment and, at the same time, raise funds to support their work and services with raffles, selling concert tickets and attracting appreciative audiences (each year we help local charities and groups to raise around £5000 through our concerts).
